Overview

What makes a mark hold up over time

A logo has a narrow job: be recognised quickly and reproduced reliably everywhere your business shows up. That means it has to survive at sixteen pixels on a browser tab, in one colour on an invoice, embroidered on a jacket and blown up on a storefront. We design for the hardest of those uses first, because a mark that only works large on a white background is a mark you will be apologising for in a year.

The first decision is the type of mark. A wordmark spells out your name and suits newer businesses that need the name remembered. A symbol paired with a wordmark gives you a compact icon for apps and social avatars. A monogram works when the full name is long. Each choice changes how flexible the identity is, so we recommend one based on your name, your channels and how you expect the business to grow.

Good logo work is also restrained. Trend-driven gradients, thin hairlines and literal pictures of what you sell tend to age fast. We aim for simple geometry, a clear silhouette and letterforms adjusted by hand, so the mark still feels right after the trend that inspired it has moved on. Restraint also keeps the logo cheaper to apply, with fewer colours to print.

Who it’s for

Built for teams like yours

  • 01

    New businesses

Founders who need a professional mark before launch, so the website, signage, cards and social profiles all start from the same identity instead of a placeholder that later has to be replaced.

  • 02

    Outgrown homemade logos

Established owners whose original logo was made quickly and now looks blurry, dated or inconsistent, and who want a cleaner version that keeps the recognition they have already earned locally.

  • 03

    Renamed or merged companies

Businesses going through a name change, merger or new product line that need a mark which signals the change clearly while still giving existing customers something familiar to hold on to.

In practice

Where a new logo makes the difference

  • Launching a storefront or office

Exterior signage, window graphics and vehicle wraps are expensive to redo. We test the mark at distance, in single colours and on physical materials before you commit to fabrication, so the sign you order is the one you keep.

  • Moving into app stores

An app icon has to read in a small rounded square beside dozens of competitors. We develop a compact symbol or monogram from the main logo so your listing, home screen icon and notification badge stay consistent.

  • Refreshing without losing recognition

When customers already know your mark, a full replacement can cost goodwill. We can redraw and simplify the existing logo instead, keeping its core shape while fixing spacing, legibility and reproduction problems underneath.

  • Building a family of sub-brands

Businesses adding locations, services or product lines need marks that clearly belong together. We design a parent logo with rules for how divisions are named and shown, so growth does not create visual clutter.

Process

How we work

  1. 1

    Brief

We start with a short questionnaire and a call about your name, customers, competitors and the places the logo must appear. We also collect marks you admire or dislike, which tells us more than adjectives alone.

  2. 2

    Sketch concepts

We explore broadly on paper and in vector before narrowing down to distinct routes. Each route is presented in context on a card, a sign and a web header, so you judge it as customers will see it.

  3. 3

    Refinement

Once you choose a direction, we tune proportions, letter spacing and curves by hand, then test the mark at very small sizes, in one colour and reversed out of dark backgrounds before calling it finished.

  4. 4

    File production

We build the final artwork in every lockup you need, horizontal, stacked and icon only, and export each in colour modes for screen, office printing and commercial print, all clearly named and organized.

  5. 5

    Usage guide

We finish with a concise guide covering clear space, minimum sizes, approved colours and common mistakes to avoid, so printers, web developers and staff can use the logo correctly without needing to ask first.
